Nguyenlist was founded in 1997 by husband and wife team Nguyen and Thu Tran. After emigrating from Vietnam in the early 1990s, the couple settled in the United States and started a small business selling housewares and kitchenware out of their home. Thu Tran had always been an excellent cook, and Nguyen had a passion for gardening, so they decided to focus their business on selling products for the home and garden.

As the business grew, so did the Tran family. The couple had two children, and Thu Tran’s parents came to live with them to help with the business. In 2003, the Tran family opened their first retail store in San Jose, California. Since then, Nguyenlist has expanded to include six retail locations across the Bay Area, as well as an online store.
