Using it for one month and no issues. My grandchildren are a good test of endurance for this product and it past. Thank you for being there for us. Great product. Quiet also.

We just finished a kitchen remodel which included a Badger 1 garbage disposal. Our kitchen design included a sink base cabinet with a revise drawer, (a pull out drawer on the bottom) which would limit space for a disposal.
The size of the Badger 1 was perfect. Reviews spoke about higher than normal noise levels but since the size was the most importance feather we purchased one.
Bottom line is its easy to install, a quality product, plenty of power, and quieter than the one we replaced, I can find no fault with it, and would recommend it.

  3. Mariano9

I rated in Overall Rating and Quality only fair because the previous one, same brand and product started to leak from the motor casing.. It did not leak from water connections or any other place.
It started to leak about a couple of years after we bought it, and it would only leak a few drops occasionally. The under cabinet was always humid or wet. I checked for leaks several times with water faucets open and not a single drop was visible.. It was until I discovered the leak only happened when we operated the InSinkErator, And it happened accidentally because my wife operated the motor while I was checking for leaks, then I noticed it exactly on the backside, very difficult to find.
I will attach a couple of pictures so you can see for yourself.

I’m a 25yr old female, and was able to replace my old disposal with this one, by myself. So, hopefully that shows it’s pretty simple to install. It was the exact same one I had prior – so it was kind of just plug and play. I did need to go buy a new electrical plug to attach to the new disposal, because it doesn’t come with one and the cord on my old one was impossible to take out and also just wanted a new cord. I also needed to buy a flexible discharge tube, because the tube it comes with is curved and I needed a straight one (the flexible one was perfect because I could adjust how long it needed to be).

  5. Genthelvite

Took a chance at saving money and decided to install myself rather than hire a plumber to remove the old an install the new.

IT WAS A SNAP! A child could have done it. It’s powerful, efficient and purrs like a kitten. If this one ever goes on me, I’m just going to replace it with the same model and now that I see how easy it is, I can do it in 30 minutes or less.

  6. Oceansue

I simply replaced my very old disposal with the same new product.
Virtually the same so it was quick and easy.
Don’t forget to poke out the hole for the dishwasher as I almost forgot to do this.
    It DOES require fresh putty.
Also, write the model and serial number down before installing because the
label with this info as on mine ended up being in the back of how it was inserted and I had to use mirrors to see it for the warranty info.
This is plenty powerful for my needs. I do not put potato skins or coffee grounds or thready celery type veggies into it…And I use ice cubes occasionally to sharpen the blades and all is smooth sailing..

I’ve used this product since 2012 when I bought my new condo from the builder. The condo was completed in 2007, but sat empty until 2012 due to the 2008 financial crisis.
This is the bottom of the product line for Insinkerator, but I must say it has been a trooper! I cook my own meals and eat at home often, and this little guy has been quite a dedicated partner all these years. I’m now upgrading to the top of the product line due to a leak that has started at the bottom of the disposer. Though I could try to repair, I’d like to have a quieter product. If the bottom of the line has been this good, I can’t wait to see what the Excel will do!

  8. Meynard

Great product! Just follow the instructions and your good to go! I install it for under 30 minutes! Totally recommend to my families and friends!

  9. rennieg

The walls give up shortly after the warrantee expires, either leaking water from small pin holes or large vertical cracks.

  10. KissyKat

While I understand the horsepower in this model leaves much to be desired, I cannot fathom why I continue to have the same reoccurring problems with this unit.
    1) Disposal must be run several times per day, even when no food has been dropped in. Water alone is enough to back it up.
    2) When turning the disposal on, water shoots up several inches out of the drain in the opposite sink and spews water on any dishes left to dry-requiring a rewash of the dishes.

Had it serviced and there was nothing apparently wrong with it. We were told the horsepower alone was the issue. We have had this size disposal before and have never had these issues.

  11. NWKaty

The original Badger was over 20 years old. Once I had to take it out and flush out a tiny nail before reinstalling it myself (I am a teacher not a plumber). It was heavy for me so when it went out again years later, I called the handyman. He recommended the same product/model. Inexpensive! Quickly installed (money saving)! Works as hoped.
It is a little noisy and it seems to vibrate the entire sink (which probably is not the most expensive builder provided 25 years ago.) The blades sound as if something is loose, but when I’ve searched around down there, nothing is loose, so many just part of the noise. Grinds quickly and efficiently.

I have had a number of Insinkerator disposals in a series of houses. This one was installed because the house did not have one, so it was not a replacement unit.

It does the job for which it is designed and even though it is the base unit of the line of disposals and its quiet rating is the lowest of the lot, I find the sounds it make to not be at all any problem.

With the limited space that I had in the undersink area it has been installed, I could not get one of the top line units and really do not see the need to spend the money for any of those.

This one does just fine and I have no problem in recommending the Badger 1 model to others.

  13. Antonio1327

The only reason this product is not rated excellent is because it makes noise; I remember talking to the builders about the noise and being told that they have checked everything they knew to check and the problem was not resolved. I called your warranty department and let whomever listen over the phone; he agreed that it should not sound that way and recommended calling a service tech after our discussion… suffice it to say, it is still loud and we, the residents, have not put anything it in that would cause the sound. We have been in our home for a little over a year and the builders put it in so I can not really attest to “ease of installation.”

  14. BBush

I’ve utilized InSinkErator for over 25 years, primarily as a maintenance person in large and small apartment complexes. These products have met and passed the expectation of the aforementioned facilities and occupants served.

The recent purchased was replacement for 20 plus year old disposal which was InSinkErator, replacement was easily installed utilizing new connector hub. Additionally making connection to existing plumbing and electrical was also easy.

I would recommend this product to most home owners and the replacement model is very quit.

  15. oldog2

So quiet in fact, that’s how I burnt the other one up, left it running. Didn’t realize it, till I went to use it again, switch was in the on position…you know that feeling…I’m 69 years old and dreaded installing a new one. But, believe what you may, it went quite well. Turnkey, about 45 minutes and best of all, no leaks! I took the installation a little further and added a lighted light switch, hoping this will keep me from leaving it on again…another good 45 minutes. Takes me longer to do things these days. Overall, great product, easy to install, surprisingly quiet…exactly what I needed. Thanks for making a great product…

  16. JamBox

We replaced an ailing and leaking disposal a little over a month ago. When researching my options and discussing it with the hardware store, I decided on this item and it has left us with much better than what we had before. The Badger 1 is strong and completes its task very thoroughly while being much quieter than what we had before also. Because it does this well, we have noticed that our dishwasher cycles have not left a need for an extra rinse cycle. We have always had this issue even when our prior disposal was working well. However, now we are benefitting from the features of the Badger in a way we didn’t expect. Great product!

  17. RWilliams

Replaced a 25 year old unit that worked fine except 1 bolt on the drain was corroded in place, snapped off flush, only needed to be removed due to kitchen renovation. Found original unit was installed incorrectly, the paper gasket is supposed to be below the sink, not under the upper lip of the Insinkerator. Small leak due to the install error corroded the bolt. The instructions could be written a little better to emphasize or restate this point, this is not the first one I’ve found this way.
Really glad no changes made to the envelope, made installation very easy, even though I had to change the plumbing from double sink to single.

  18. Alphy

This is the third Badger to grace the underside of my sink.
The first on was installed by the builder in the fall of 2005, the second one was installed June 2012, this third one was installed March 2018.
The motor is powerful enough to grind just about any food scraps put into it so why would you need anything more powerful ? Unless you’re grinding up truck tires this motor is just fine.
They could get rid of this cheaper model and concentrate their efforts to using all stainless steel parts on the insides and maybe a band on the outside of the unit to ensure a tight seal between the plastic housing and the main body of the unit.

  19. sarasotaArt

The original did not last long. Might have been our fault. We may have overworked it, but we used it on all the same garbage that we ground up for many years, in a much earlier one that we had, before it finally needed replacement.
This unit that we just registered already seems on it’s last legs and is making sounds (metallic clanging) that it’s predecessor made just prior to failing. Some sort of a grinding lever(?) seems loose and nearly afloat.
Guess we wait and see if the warranty is really true when it finally fails.
We have used it very infrequently, and then only on soft things.
Seems to me to be a manufacturing defect.

  20. Donna45

Don’t be afraid to install this yourselves – especially if it is a replacement situation. Some points: 1) Clear out everything under the sink and put down an old rug or something to lay on for your comfort. 2) Hang a work light under there too so you can see what you are doing. 3) Make sure you knock the plastic plug thing out if your installation involves a dishwasher. Fortunately I was warned ahead by someone who missed that instruction and had to go back and start over. 4) AND when it comes time to put it in place under the sink – a second pair will make the job much much easier and your language less colorful! Happy grinding!!

I purchased this to replace my previous 20 year old Badger 1. The old one still worked, but one of the rivets on the spinning plate (don’t know what it’s called) broke and I couldn’t find a replacement part so I had to buy a new unit. It’s really the only downside of this product. I had to replace the entire thing because of one loose rivet and put a perfectly good motor/housing in the trash.

Replacement seemed straightforward enough. I was able to use the same mount and power cord from the old unit.

So far, seems to work just like the old one. I just hope it lasts as long and maybe InSinkErator will sell replacement parts.

  22. Mark8378

We purchased this Badger 1 to replace an older Badger 5 model in an outdoor kitchen. Since the kitchen is used much less often than inside our home we saw no need to pay for more horsepower or a quieter model.. It was the easiest installation I have ever done. Everything you need is in the box. Make sure you keep your older electric cord. Once installed we were surprised at just how quiet it is. After checking for leaks we filled it with several kitchen scraps and ran it as usual. It quickly and efficiently ground everything and left nothing behind. We have now used this unit for over 2 months and it works perfectly every time.

  23. Jose157

After using a previous Badger 1 Garbage Disposal for 15 years in our home, the disposal starting leaking from the bottom. We purchased another Badger 1 model and it fit perfectly. We re-used the existing sink brackets which sped up installation of the new disposal. Make sure you use a bucket or some other article on which you can rest the new disposal to make the re-wiring process a lot easier with two free hands. It was my first replacement and all went easily using the instructions provided. Make sure you do not forget to take the Model and Serial number labels and place them to the front of the disposal for future reference.

  24. Magilla

This unit replaced another Badger 1 unit that was 9 years old. The installation was very easy. The main feature that I did not care for was the fact that the unit did not come with an electrical cord, so I decided to use the old cord…….what a comedy it was getting the cord disconnected from the old unit. They make it so that when the cover plate is “clicked” into position you cannot release it without tearing apart the motor. So, consequently, just retrieving the cord took MUCH longer than the installation. Also, I thought that, with the limited use that the 9 year old unit received, it should have lasted a little longer.

  25. scharles78

This product came with my new home. I’m disappointed with it in general. It makes a loud sound as if something is loose inside. The sounds doesn’t always happen, but it’s enough to be annoying. It also seems to take a long time to get items ground up enough to wash down the drain. Occasionally when you run water the water fills up in the sink and doesn’t go down. I tried to run the unit thinking something was blocking the drain. When I did that water just swished around and stayed clogged, no food items were ground up or clogging the drain. After a few minutes the water finally went down. I would not recommend this product.

  26. Wayne738

The Badger 1 is a replacement for a 12 yr old InSinkErator who’s motor died. The installation was easy since the old units adapters fit the new unit and the plumbing matched up. This unit does not have the nice feature of the older unit which was that the motor reversed direction each time it started which reduces the possibility of jams. The old unit never had a jam up in 12 years while the new unit has had one int he first 4 months of use. The Badger 1 is also noisier than the old unit. If I were to do it again, it would buy the next InSinkErator model up which probably has more sound insulation and the reversing feature.
