Good circular saw. I bought this several years ago and it’s been a good little saw. I just recently used it to cut lumber to frame out by basement walls. It burns through the 2 amp hour battery very quickly. The 4 amp hour battery lasts quite a while. But if you look at the attached pictures, all of the 2×4 framing was cut using this circular saw.

I decided to try out this cordless saw as I am getting tired of dragging extension cords out everytime I need to make a cut. Having no experience with a cordless saw, I did not know what to expect. I made several cuts in different types of wood (plywood, 2X4 and 2X6) I have to say I was quite impressed with the ease of use and the clean and easy cuts. The only thing I really missed was having a laser guide that I have with my corded saw. It just means I will have to pay closer attention to staying on the line. I have not found any fault with it so far, and I am very satisfied with it.

I am now a diehard Kobalt fan all thanks to this saw. It’s almost as if it were made specifically for me. It meets all my criteria and then some. Firstly the blade is on the right which I prefer. Secondly it’s a 6 1/2 so it’s lighter and more compact. It also has an LED to illuminate the cut which is new to me. The soft start is nice and doesn’t give the saw a shake when turning it on. The brake is also convenient and a nice safety feature. The saw is very well constructed, balanced and powerful. I am confident this saw (and Kobalt in general) will provide me years productivity and reliability. Kobalt, you have a new customer for life.

So far I’m very impressed with this saw. I was cutting gussets out of 1/2″ plywood and my cheapo corded saw died halfway through. Finished the job with this saw, it actually preformed MUCH better. I was able to cut a stack of 5 sheets of 1/2″ plywood up no problem. Had to charge battery one time, but it’s the smallest battery they make. I think instead of buying a new corded saw I’m just going to buy another charger and bigger battery. The trigger is a little odd. It feels like it takes a minute to spin up. Same thing on the rest of these tools, but it’s definitely not a deal breaker and I’ll get used to it.

We bought this battery operated circular saw for our sheds deck project. It was light weight, accurate and the battery had a long life.

Good saw if you want to make a quick cut and not drag out a cord. Its a little awkward to get used too because the balance is not that good because because of the heavy battery in the back. Cuts well with good power. The only negative I found is back to the balance thing, you cant just put it down easily after you make a cut because it falls over on its side instead of staying upright. I , have about 10 different Kobalt Tools and love them all work flawlessly and you cant beat a 5 year warranty. Also batteries are cheaper compared to other brands. I hope doesnt scrap the Kobalt line because of their new romance with Craftsman.

This saw really does the job, and does it well. This saw complements my other battery operated tools, and makes life much easier. I started to move away from corded tools for a variety of reasons; the most important was safety. Cordless tools give me the freedom to move around the worksite without dragging cords, worrying about water and electricity, or in some cases, needing a generator.

This saw cuts well with the included 24 tooth blade, and the LED light is a plus in dim lighting conditions. The depth scale is easy to locate and read, and is accurate. Use the blade depth scale to adjust the blade correctly because it helps prevent kickback and also gives a smoother cut.

I use the extra capacity battery for the additional runtime. If you go this route, you will be glad. This saw is comfortable, and the grips are well placed for good control. I also use this saw for quick trimming and cross cuts. Overall, I am pleased with the performance of this Kobalt battery operated circular saw.

I was looking to replace my corded Porter Cable circular saw, and figured if I was going through the trouble of replacing, it would need to meet two criteria: cordless and brushless. The big guys (DeWalt, Milwaukee, etc) were nice, but pricey. I read good reviews on this saw so I decided to give it a try. Man am I impressed! The acid test was sawing though a 1 ½” birch butcher block I was making a table out of. This thing was like “pfft, give me a real challenge.” Didn’t even flinch! The build quality is on par with the other name brands, and the power was very impressive. Battery life is excellent, and above all it is well balanced and easy to handle. Really the only complaint I have isn’t even a complaint:the LED light is kind of useless, given the position of it. Other than that, I love this saw!

I was starting a new project of redoing my 155′ boardwalk, 20’x12′ dock, and stairway leading to woods. I needed to replace my 10 year old craftsman set after seeing a that two new batteries was going to be $160+. After a lot of research and hands on in the store, the Kobalt driver set was the first part of the replacement. This saw was the second piece of the replacement. The saw was very capable of powering through the 80+ cuts on new and old 2x6s and 2x8s. While on the dock, I let a friend with background in construction use the Kobalt tools. He was impressed by the power and light weight, even with the extended batteries.

But in this case, it’s a very good one, even if it is battery powered. I have used battery powered tools before and was always disappointed when the charge started to run out. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. This one had more power than expected (maybe because I had been using only 18volt and 19.2 volt batteries). It lasted for more than a total of 2 hours of cutting (the job took about 6) and faded (to me) only near the end. Maybe I was just getting tired from our hot sun and it only seemed that way?!??!
The included blade was the same as other blades, but it didn’t seem to even try to bind up while cutting.

I purchased the Kobalt line of 24-volt tools recently, because I was fed up paying high prices for the other brands because of their name and because of the added power of 24 volt. I have been highly impressed. The first time I used the circular saw with a 4.0 amp battery on the job site I cut 86 – 2×4 and 12 sheets of 7/16 OSB on the same battery and still had charge left. The battery lasted a long time with no loss of power and the circular saw cut like a hot knife through butter. I would recommend this line of Kobalt cordless tools to the DIY, home owner, and professional.

Oh man!!! This thing is awesome!!! Bought it to build this wheelchair ramp for my mother in law! The picture doesn’t show the entire ramp, but I can tell you, it’s massive! This cordless Kobalt Circular Saw made this project go sooo much smoother! And the battery lasted the entire time with no loss of power!

Got a chance to use the little 24 volt circular saw today. I was cutting 3/4 inch plywood to make shelves. The little saw didn’t skip a beat. I cut through 2 sheets of plywood with no trouble and the blade i have on the saw is a diablo finish plywood blade not sure but I think it was a 48 tooth blade. Made about 30 to 35 cuts and used on light on the battery. If you in the marked for a jigsaw I really like the 24 volt jigsaw I have now replaced a Haitchi jigsaw for most of my cuts now. I’m into milwaukee tools and have a lot of them and I don’t think there are any better tools out there but the kobalt isn’t far behind. Hope this helps

love this saw. good power and batt. life with the 4ah batts. After 4yrs of sometimes heavy use, I finally had a failure. Saw fell off 4ft ladder and hit on concrete. I had this happen before but this time it hit just tite and broke the cast shoe where it pins to motor. called kobalt cs to buy a new shoe only to learn very good news. SHOR WASNT IN STOCK AND MY SAW WAS STILL UNDER WTTY!!! Took 5 mins on the phone and received a ref number to go to and get a NEW SAW FOC! i own many kobalt cordless tools and this was my first failure ever and CUSTOMER SVC WAS 5 STAR EXCELLENCE!

After looking at ALL of the available brands >18v, I decided to go with Kobalt down the line. The warranty is good, the ergonomics of the tools are great, and the performance is second to none. The saw performs as well as my corded, and much heavier, Milwaukee. Naturally, it won’t cut all day non-stop but for the amount of circular saw cutting I do, this one fits the bill perfectly. I could not be happier with the performance of this tool and I highly recommend taking a look at the Kobalt line to anyone who is considering purchasing new cordless power tools.

  16. RBStorms

After using this for a couple of weeks, I believe this is one of the top cordless saws out there. If you’re looking at pro-level tools, this one competes very nicely, at a better price than just about everything out there.

So, what’s so great: Nice balance, very compact, brushless motor, quite powerful, easy to use. Choice of 2Ah, 4Ah, and 5Ah. batteries.

Is it as powerful as corded units? Don’t be silly. Is it powerful enough to use for most of your jobs? Absolutely. I hate dragging cords around, so I will reach for this every time, unless I absolutely need the corded power.

What’s missing: No laser guide, but there is a LED light.

What’s weird: Just a strange design choice/compromise. It’s advertised that this saw has the same “cut” as a 7-1/4″ saw. To do that, the motor spindle has been dropped as close to the base or shoe of the saw, and the motor, while very compact, overhangs the shoe a bit. So, if your rip fence is taller than a 1/4″, or so, it will meet with interference.

Anything else? Yes. Unfortunately, this is yet another commitment to make in batteries and chargers. If you don’t have any pro-sumer level tools, the 24v system might be an excellent place to start. If you’re tired of the low-end stuff and ready to move up, check these out. If you have need of a highly portable saw, and don’t care if the batteries and chargers you have now interchange, then this is a great choice.

This is the first battery powered, circular saw I have ever owned! I was able to use it to build raised flower beds out of salvaged deck boards and scrap, treated 4 x 4’s. Cut the deck boards with little effort, but required two cuts to get thru the 4 x 4’s. Did not find the two cuts to be an issue. 20 amp battery last a long time between re-charges. I was able to assemble the first planter while the battery was re-charging.
Had to put the balance of this project on hold because of surgery on my wrist for a bone infection. Now I must be very careful on what I pick up with my right hand. The weight of this saw and battery do not exceed my doctor’s limit on what I can pick up. Got this great tool at the right time!

  18. NATHEN

I own a dewalt 20v circular saw and the 20v 4ah batteries. This Kobalt saw with the 4ah batteries last about 4 times longer. The batteries are cheaper. Has a lot more power and is much more compact. I don’t even grab the dewalt anymore. This is a great saw would buy again without hesitation.

  19. Dan

The kobalt 24 volt line ups only let down is that there isn’t more of them. Every tool in their line up is better than any rigid brand tool by far. I love the color of the tools and the battery run times.
Thank you thank you! Love these tools

  20. CrashTestDummy

This is a powerful and solid saw. Well built and just feels like a quality tool. Cuts through most conventional lumber with ease. Stability is good and well balanced. Actually feels similar to a corded circular saw, but less weight.

My only issue with it is that it is a right-sided blade. I think they design it that way as a safety measure. However, I worked in construction and got very use to the industry standard Skil saw with a left-sided blade. I always learned to cut watching the blade, rather than the guide which is much more accurate for me. With the right-hand blade it is much more difficult to see the blade and more difficult to make an accurate cut. Not a deal breaker, though.

There’s a slot for a fence, but it doesn’t come with one. It’s VERY tough to make straight cuts without a fence, and I’m surprised they left it out (what does it cost, like 50 cents?). I would like to buy one to add to my saw, but apparently doesn’t sell them? Geez… The XTR version of this saw is more powerful, has vacuum attachment and light, and comes with the fence, and (as of the time of writing this review) the XTR saw is actually $20 cheaper than this one. I don’t get it. Knocked off one star for leaving out the fence, and another star because doesn’t sell them. I would NOT recommend this saw to anyone, especially since the XTR version solves these issues.

The price and voltage is what obviously enticed me. Run time is good and has enough power for what I need. It’s also very light. The main shoe (base plate), is thin and cheapish and also to narrow. The lock for depth is not very secure. Also, if the saw is set at 0 degrees, it’ll still cut a slight angle on deeper cuts.

It really comes down to your expectations. If you just need basic cuts without much precision, it’ll do. If you’re cutting to fit things together or you’re replacing a Dewalt, Mikita or similar, I think you’ll suffer from buyers remorse.

I purchased Kobalt’s 4 amp battery pack (2) and charger that included my choice of a tool at no charge; and I chose this circular saw. I used the saw to cut several straight and angle cuts. The ‘shoe’ indent for alignment to a line is perfect for a thin kerfed saw blade. The bevel gauge is great too. After adjusting the saw blade to 90 degrees, the bevel pointer was right on. I haven’t run the tool long enough (only one hour) but have been extremely pleased with it’s 4 amp power and the power used is about 1/4. I’m looking forward to using this saw to help with a new deck build.

This has a lot of features that I am not used to on a circular saw. My old one was just that, very old, corded, and it didn’t have a guide. The weight of the saw is okay and the grip is nice. I like that I can set the depth of the cut. I will have to play with the bevel feature another time. I did have some trouble with the actual blade guide. I could not see my marks and had to make a jig to guide the saw on smaller cuts. I will probably get used to how it sits, but for now it is a learning curve for me. My old one didn’t have all this stuff on it and I could see my marks. I do really like not having a cord to trip over and yet still have the same power in the saw. All in all, it’s nice to be in the 21st century with this new saw.
