This is a powerful little tiller. It was easy to assemble and I already had a battery (80volt 5amp) for it. I was surprised as to how long the battery lasted. The only issue I could think of, maybe looking into adjustable wheels when plowing.

  2. MilwaukeeMama

    Pros
80 volt battery lasted for almost 2 hours
    Easy to assemble and store
Easily ripped out the dead grass and weeds
Easy to clean most of the tines, used a pair of pliers to rip out the stubborn weeds
No fumes like a gas tiller
Very quiet compared to a gas tiller
Tiller is over two years old and still works like a champ

    Cons
Constantly cleaning out weeds between the tines
Wish the Handle Height was adjustable for shorter people

I have not used the tiller as yet though it appears well built. The issue is that it was not packaged with enough protection during shipment to my house. The two knobs on the side of the handle arrived broken. I called the 800 number provided for Kobalt. I was told that that item (the 2, 50 cent plastic knobs) are NOT replaceable. Therefore, I was instructed to take the tiller to and return it. INSANE. So you can’t expect the tiller to be much good if the company is that stupid. That is they want refund my money, lose the sale, by having the item returned to rather than spend $5 in shipping and $1 for the 2 plastic knobs and mail them to me.

I gambled when I purchased this to do a rough 3,000 s.f slope restoration project. 3:1 slope, clay and 1”-3” bank run gravel base. I had 2 batteries from other Kobalt products so I figured for $200.00, I’d beat the snot out of it. Well, I couldn’t be more impressed. Only used 3 batteries and chugged through heavy areas of clay and gravel. I’m sold on the 80V product line. I’ve used gas tillers in the past also.

The directions for putting the cultivator together were not the most precise but I managed with illustration on the box cover.
I tried out the cultivator in my sandy soil garden and it seemed to work ok. I worked a roughly 20’ x 40’ area at least twice and the battery still had charge. There were a few places where the garden soil was a bit harder and I had to go over those spots few extra times to get the soil plowed up to my liking.
I like being able to pick up the machine to work tight corners.
If you’re not in a hurry and your garden soil is not hard clay I think this machine will work.

I purchased this Kobalt 80-volt Cultivater a few months ago, because I already have the 80-volt Mower, Weed Wacker and Blower, but did not use it until monday July 26,2021. Well my wife was eager to turn over the ground on the side of the house, so she started using this cultivator and WoW I was impressed. It cut threw the the the ground Like a butter knife on soft butter bringing up small rocks. I was shocked I did not think this battery operated Tiller would have enough power turn over the ground.I did not think that my wife would be able to use it on her own, but I was wrong This thing is a Beast and user friendly enough to have my wife able to use it.

Works well as a cultivator. I read a few reviews staing that it was too tall . With the wheels attached it is cumbersome. I replaced the bolt that attached the wheels with a clevis pin so I can take the wheels off easier when in use and it works great.

  8. Bigguy24

Its OK, it has pros and cons. Pros – love the 80V, plenty of power. Fairly light but durable and well made. I tilled a 1/5 of an acre on one 80V 2.5Ah battery in NC hot sun. Cons – The tines do one thing, cut straight grooves, so even moderate patches of weeds or grass, you have to go forward and backward and sideways to get them churns. If you push forward, you dig a hole down. Other issue is there is no height adjustment. I am very tall so no problem for me but the wife stuggles as most people would under 6 feet tall. Suggestion, makes the tines with tight right angles to cultivate better. That all said, i am heavily vested in the 80V Kobalt tools so, keep them coming !

Ordered the tiller on line as my local store did not have this battery operated tiller. I have multiple Kobalt battery operated products and have been very pleased with every one of them. Hope continues with Kobalt. Gas powered tillers, weed eaters, etc… just do not hold up. Am very pleased. My only complaint would be the instructions say to put the tines on in a particular way and if you did it the way the instructions stated they would be hooked together. Figured it was a translation issue.

It’s a good little cultivator. I used it to dig up the weeds and grass in my 18’ X 14’ garden before tilling with my gas tiller. Didn’t want to till the grass and weeds into the garden soil. It’s a mess trying to rake everything out of the soil after a good tilling. This cultivator should be good to weed between the plants throughout the spring and summer. A second battery comes in handy. I have the cultivator, 18” chain saw, and leaf blower; two batteries total for all.

  11. Texas Green Thumb

Worked perfect in my raised bed gardens. Turned over the soil and mixed in new compost and fertilizer with ease.

  12. pattyschoice

In the process of redoing the entire yard. Had it scraped clean. This little powerhouse has been great to till to keep the weeds down until I get to those parts of the yard. It is also light enough that when my raised garden beds are made I will be able to used it to till them. The battery lasts about 30-40 minutes when using. And I love that it is not gas powered so I’m not dealing with noise and fumes! Just what I had in mind!

  13. Dave

I bought this tiller because i am tired of gas powered small engines that sit then are hard to start. I have used this product for cultivation between the rows in my garden. The 2ah battery lasts at least 1/2 hour so a second battery is recommended if you have a larger garden. The first tiling was more time consuming than the next ones. I would not recommend this to till through sod or untilled ground but for cultivating and keeping the ground broke up this is a great tool. I also have the Cobalt snowblower which i am not as satisfied with only because it is hard to push but the 5ah battery works with the tiller giving more tilling time that the 2ah battery. I am pleased with this purchase.

Following the instructions on how to install the blades results in digging two narrow channels rather than a general grinding of the dirt. Installing the blades in a different order while still having the blades face forward gives a much better outcome. Also, the handle height and angle should be adjustable. Otherwise, the machine works fairly well.

  15. Kitty

When I first started considering buying this tiller, my husband said, “I really don’t think it’s going to do what you’re wanting it to do”. What I wanted was just something that would turn compost into the top soil in my in ground gardens, so I figured it was worth a shot since I love my other Kobalt 80v tools. Well, it turns compost like a champ!! Also, tore the grass up 2-3” deep on never worked soil so I could get ready to broad fork a new bed easier. And it turns out it is also insanely good at breaking up the chunks left by the broad fork. I have terrible ankles and therefor difficulties with balance, so it can be a little wobbly for me but overall I am very pleased with this purchase. It is great for the exact job I needed done and so much more.

    Super easy

  17. Vinniep

Awesome product in all ways. I loved that i was able to purchase without a battery since i already had 2 with my mower and blower. It churned up my garden effortlessly and now i dont have to worry if it will start next year. These truly are awesome machines

  18. BMyers

We use the cultivator for our chicken run and small flower garden. Battery runs a long time and is powerful enough. you won’t be digging any fresh ground with this but does a wonderful job of keeping tilled ground loose. Moves around real easy with he wheels.

  19. CBFM

I used this tool to till and level over 600 sq ft of yard before placing sod. It took me several days because of soil conditions (moisture, tree roots, etc) but because I was alternating a 2 AH and 2.5 AH batteries, the tiller actually lasted longer than I did each day. I also used it to till up about 100 sq ft of flower bed in preparation for planting this season.

The tool was easy to assemble, lightweight (maybe even almost too light for heavy clay type soils), and durable.

Overall, please with the purchase. And will be using it each year to prep the flower bed. So, I will be getting my money’s worth hopefully.

The ONLY reason I took off a star was the wheel attachment. Not matter how much I tightened, it kept coming loose. I feel like this could have been better designed.

  20. KenS

This cultivator is just right for my vegetable garden and for creating planting beds around the house. Has enough power to do the job, without having to use a gas model.

I’ve been very pleased with the Kobalt 80v tiller so far. It is well suited for smaller jobs, great for breaking up old dry ground so you can treat the soil and plant. I have used it for fixing dead spots in the lawn. Our unit had a charger failure on the first charge, but Kobalt sent out a new unit after filing the proper communications with them. I love how easy this unit is to clean up. Taking the rotating tiller blades off is super easy, so cleanup is very quick. The unit seems pretty good at tearing up the soil and doesn’t bog down on much- If it does suddenly stop, it is just time to change out the battery. I bought a second battery and now can rotate the two batteries in and out of service to work as long as I need to. Charge times are surprisingly fast.

  22. Eric

I put my 20×20 garden in today and this tiller handled it no problem. It helped to have multiple batteries, since I have a kobalt mower and chainsaw. Not messing with 2-cycle engines = win

  23. DEEJAY

IT IS ONLY MADE FOR GROUND UP SOIL, NOT POWERFUL ENOUGH FOR SOD, WHICH I KIND OF KNEW. WOULD LIKE IT TO BE A LITTLE MORE POWERFUL .BUT IT IS VERY LIGHT AND CONVIENT WHICH I LIKE

  24. Country

This tiller is perfect for anyone that doesn’t want the headaches of a gas powered engine. It work’s well, easy to get roots etc. off that get intertwined around the tiller, light enough that most people can manage to pick up when necessary. I love my tiller and have really been using it around in our yard and garden. I think our garden will be the best it has ever been due to the fact of the tiller. Great product. I actually love all of the Kobalt line.

  25. Luanne

I wasn’t sure it would have enough power for a big garden and planting beds. It definitely does. The tines come off easily to clean grass and weeds between them. Performs just like a gas power

  26. JBL

Bought this and love it!! In past years I have had to borrow the neighbors cultivator in order to get my garden ready. It was heavy, awkward and smelly because it is gas powered. Wanted to have another garden this year but was dreading borrowing the neighbors again. Saw this on sale about a month ago and decided to buy it! I should let you know that I only bought the tool, and had it shipped directly to my house; I have plenty batteries and chargers due to having the lawnmower, chainsaw, weed-eater and blower. It came when it was supposed too, in fact a day early. Took a few minutes to assemble and got to work in cultivating my garden. Since the ground I was going to put my garden had never been used for that purpose, it took numerous passes to get the ground prepared. The Cultivator ran effortlessly and no issues, even with small roots and such wrapped around the bottom. Yes it just wanted to keep going!! It never bogged down or hesitated! It is so light and does take some getting used to, because it is a little different than a traditional cultivator. Would I recommend or buy again? Most definitely!! I plan to own the entire 80 volt line, only have to 2 more tools to buy (Pole Saw and Hedge Trimmer) to have everything in this line and love it! (Don’t need the snowblower, because I live in the South! LOL)

The Kobalt Cultivator was easy to put together right out of the box. My first concern though was the relative looseness of the ring pins used to hold the tines in place. Sure enough, the second time I used the product, a ring pin came out and a tine fell off. I was done for that day. I could not find replacement parts at my , but I used cotter pins instead. Since then I have had no further problems. The battery holds a charge well and there is significant power. I have not had any issue with the battery losing power before I was done.

Just received my tiller and as I was putting this together I came across a very big issue. While trying to attach the upper handle assembly to the lower handle I noticed that I only have holes on one side of the lower handle to attach the upper handle. This is very DUMB. WHILE USING THIS THE HANDLE WILL COME OFF EVERY TIME. I have tried calling kobalt and no answer.

  29. Joann

I have only used the tiller once. It works well. Would like it to till a little deeper also all kobalt products I have purchased are made for someone 6 ft 5. Handles are too long for me. I am 5ft 6.

This little tiller works great it suprised on how well it works. It also did not use that much battery I also have the lawnmower 80 volt I cut my lawn then tilled the garden I have a 6amp battery and I still have 3 lights after about 2hrs of uses
