If you are “serious” about getting the job done, right. Then this tool is for you. The cheapo buffers that you can find, $25 to even over $50 are really, well, junk. Look at the amp ratings, most cheap buffers are no more than a fraction of one amp. This baby is 4.5 amps. Quite an improvement in power and results. I bought a cheap one, and returned it the next day. Fortuneatly the pads I bought for it fit this one as well. You NEED pads, don’t use the foam right up against your work. Microfibre pads are relatively cheap and work great. Pick up a pack or two. I “waxed” two cars and my John Deere in one morning, much, much quicker than doing it all by hand, and it looks great. Mirror finish in my wife’s 2010 Saturn. And a nice reflection in the hood of the John Deere, also bought at .

having used this tool for many years, I highly recommend it to others. my primary use, in recent years, has been in finishing and refinishing out door decks. I have 5″ and 7″ sanders which are both good, but 5″ is too small for large areas, 7″ is way too heavy (3x the weight). this 6″ unit is light weight to use all day long and has twice the power of my 5″. I would consider this a commercial grade tool as I have never burnt one up like my 5s and 7s. any random orbit tool is going to vibrate by its very nature so this is a good thing, get used to it. have just recommended this tool to another contractor. I looked around for a step up from a hand sander and am so glad I found the Porter Cable. The 6 inch disk seems like a small increase from the traditional 5 inch sanders, but it means more power and faster sanding. The handle makes all the difference in the world if you’ve got a big job to do as it helps decrease hand fatigue.
I bought it to sand down our deck after stripping the finish and it did everything I asked. You’ll need a lot of sanding disks for something like that, by the way !
Only used it one day so far, but it feels like a professional grade tool and should last a long time.

Writing review after 2 years of use. Used exclusively for detailing cars haven’t used it yet for sanding. I no longer detail cars professionally just for my fleet (mine, wife, kids and their significant others). Great product, solid construction, great power. If using for detailing i suggest getting a hookk & loop back plate and then just buy specific pads for what you need (wax compound glaze etc…)

I had begun a furniture refinishing project recently. I had to remove old shellac from a bedroom suit. Began process with orbital sanders but was taking a long time to eat through the shellac. Purchased this Porter Cable ROS sander and production improved dramatically. Went from almost an hour per piece, to minutes per piece. This machine is a work horse, will plow through a refinishing project with ease. Little to no vibration when in use. Does a fantastic job. Really impressed with this tool. Valuable addition to my tool arsenal

This is a replacement of an old version of this sander. My first one was purchased in the early 1990’s when building our home. It was used extensively for all the cabinet and trim work in a 5000 SF home. As an avid woodworker it served me for many years. While doing repairs and refinishing of some of the hardwood floors the pad drive shaft finally broke. In the interest of time I purchased a new one from . I will order replacement parts (still available) and repair the older one. If you are looking a quality random orbit sander that will do the job this is it!!!!!

I have owned and used these sanders for many years. This one is a little heavier than the previous model. Good solid tool!

I just bought this sander a couple of days ago to sand a 20 year old cabinet and it did the job with the 40 grit sand paper I bought with it. everything on it is great you can adjust the speed of the orbit, my only problem with this product is it vibrates really bad. other then that it is a great product

This tool works better than I expected, and I’m a professional classic car restorer. Enough said?

I have had one of these sanders for a couple of years now and have been very happy with it. I use it mostly for sanding on cedar strip kayaks and paddles as we build them. I have used it a lot witout any trouble with the sander. When I bought mine I bought an extra sanding pad. I have now worn out both pads . The pads are soft so you can sand uneven and conical surfaces so they will tend to wear with a lot of use. Not a quality issue, just buy and extra pad if you are going to be using it a lot.

I have had this sander for years and love it .I am a contractor and and build furnuture. It performs .I have many different sanders of different brands on my benches but I always seem to grab this one to use all the time. I really dont use the polishing pad but its a nice extra perk The Toolman

Like it . But when you need excessories, you have to order else where. No excessories in any store. No polishing excessories either. This is a polisher/sander. It don’t work by itself.

I abuse my tools, and the other day I realized my porter cable 7336 was the oldest power tool in the box. It has more power than the 4.5 amp rating belies. Have used it to refinish countless staircases, stripping paint, general wood shaping. This sander makes all others look like fischer price toys. I’m a pro, so durability and efficiency are crucial, however even if I were doing a one off sanding/refinishing job I wouldn’t hesitate one bit on the extra dollars to pick this workhorse up.
