Full disclosure, It’s not straightforward being a Renogy consumer. I’ve not found any available information to allow a buyer to choose wisely on any brand of charge controller. The first big hurdle is going to be PV input amperage. This is seemingly never disclosed prior to ownership. No worries here. just hook up 4 Renogy 100 watt panels in series and you’re golden. Why not 5 since it’s rated at 520 watts for a 12 volt system? Because your Voltage will cause the controller to stop working. The work-around: hook 2 100 watt Renogy solar panels in series with a 370 watt or similar panel. Ensure that the negative of the panels is from the Renogy and that the positive is from the larger panel. The goal is to stay at or under 520 watts and 100 volts from the series while allowing the Renogy panels to dictate the amperage. Buy this Charge controller if you want to generate as much as 520 watts per hour at peak radiance for a 12 volt system or 1040 watts for per hour for a 24 volt system. You won’t go wrong with this if you follow my lead. I have a theoretical max PV output of 502 watts per hour, which is about 64 more than the theoretical max with 4 of Renogy’s very good 100 watt compact monocrystaline panels. I routinely dip to 12.2 volts and with 8, 122Ah SLA Deep cycle batteries, I see daily peak voltages of between 13.5 and 14.9. By the time I get home in the wee hours, I usually still have 12.5 volts.

High quality MPPT Controller. Currently I have it hooked up to (5) 100 watt Renogy Solar panels and (2) 12v Smart Lithium Iron Phosphate 100ah batteries and a 3000 watt Renogy Inverter. I plan on adding (2) more batteries in the future. This system is functioning flawlessly thus far. I am currently running a Instant On Boiler and (3) circulating pumps as whole house heating system. Paired with the BT-1 module it is easily monitored.

I purchased this roughly a year ago as an upgrade to the 30 AMP model this product is durable, easy to install, and when paired with the BT-1 and the Renogy App makes this an essential part of any off grid solar setup. I would recommend this product over and over again. I currently have 500 watts of Renogy roof solar and an optional 400 watts of Renogy suitcase solar

I bought this to replace my Renogy 20 amp MPPT charger. I upgraded my solar array to provide more power than it could accomodate, and this was the logical choice. I was happy with the 20 AMP, and the 40 AMP- while a little larger, fits the bill and works well. I only rate 4 stars because there are other brands that equip their models with bluetooth internally, and that these same other brands process MPPT a little faster… does either mean much to most? Probably not. Does the latter mean more efficiency? I don’t know. But, I do know that for my purposes, this 40 AMP unit does well and fits the bill for my uses.

Nice product, MPPT seems to work well. LCD interface is intuitive and easy to work with.

The Bluetooth interface is less friendly since you have to go thru a web style
Interface first. I’d like a more direct approach.

We’ve had the 400W kit on our RV for a year now. We run the furnace at night from wet cells with about 200 AH capacity. Every morning they have been fully recharged within a few hours, depending on overnight outside temperature and hours of furnace use. Worst case, the batteries have been fully recharged within six, perhaps seven hours of first light.
We don’t use the bluetooth, and the battery temp wires are too short to reach (NB Renogy !) Another suggestion, Renogy, it to make the cable entry a little “prettier.” Perhaps rear cable entry, or a nice cover for the wires?

Very easy install. Li charge parameters are perfect for my 2 parallel set up.

Works terrific. Would like to see an update on the app.

I have used it for only 1 week. I have a use that is not typical. Living in the southwest we run an Evap Cooler during drydock in National forest when temps reach 85 to 110. The 84 watt Evap Cooler keeps the RV cool. So on low speed we need 50 to 70 amp hours a day. We are still tweeking “User” settings to keep the Rover from dropping down the amps during the day and not fully charging the AGM batteries. The day ends with batteries at 12.5 volts with 500 watts of ground mount solar manually tracking the sun.

Really love the bluetooth option. Had to figure out how to configure it–perhaps, it was not in the instructions; or, I missed it. Love all the different measures. Would like to know what they mean. And would like to know how the solar panels are doing, vs. how much energy the Rover is using. Is a current the best it can do? The amount it allows to occur? Battery vs. panel current? Why are they different? Context? P=IV. Most useful is battery voltage.

Which Li ion deep cycles do you recommend?
