The yard had some bare spots that really needed some help and was not surprised that Scotts has a good product like this seed. I did aerate and put down starter fertilizer and already have a whole bunch of new grass coming thru. It is filling in really nice. The dark green blades are blending in with the rest of the grass. You wont be disappointed. Don’t forget to water every day until germinated.

Well I have this section of lawn or rather dirt that borders the neighbors woods that is always bare of living things. The trees are fairly dense in their forest and thus shade the area most of the day. Trying out Scott’s dense shade mix grass seed to see if this can survive. It only requires 3 hours of sunlight which I think I have, we’ll see. I ruffed up the soil and spread the seed using a Scott’s hand held spreader, then put down some Scott’s starter fertilizer. It took while for the sprouts to appear ~ 2/3 weeks and it’s a bit spotty, I’ll put some more down in the spring. So right now it’s a wait and see how it does in the spring as I have plenty of sun now that the leaves are down. I’ll update accordingly.

I seeded around a large maple tree and will over seed in the spring. I got good germination and looking to thicken the grass some more in the spring. The tree does provide a lot of shade so hope to see nice results, especially around the edges of the tree.

I am by no means a lawn person, but we had a large area that previously had mulch. After digging up the mulch, the tarp and turning over the soil we planted this seed….watered a lot…and so far so good! This is 10 days later, it is doing really well.
We even planted much later in the season than we are supposed to (late May in the Midwest heat), watered twice a day. The area only gets a couple hours of sun each day max.

Had a rough winter this year and I have two very large dogs who tore up the lawn. Took those two problems as an excuse to patch/re-seed my lawn. Front and rear lawn are covered by trees of varying densities and see sunlight steadily for just a few hours a day.

Applied dense-shade mix as instructed after aerating and applying compost layer to lawn. I then fertilized with SCOTTS lawn-starter fertilizer. New seedlings started to appear after 2 weeks and everything looks fantastic now as I enter week 6 of project. Lawn is lush and green and looks like a carpet.

PRO TIP: Water every day. EVERY DAY. No excuses. You will see much better results.

I put down an area of 3 feet by 20 feet in the late April. Water once and then covered with a thin sheet of plastic sheeting to prevent water evaporation. Water once or twice within the next week. Grass came out after 1 week or so and plastic sheeting was removed. Within the next 2-3 weeks, all grass came out to 4″ high and I mowed it. Beautiful.

We bought our house a year ago and the grass was awful. Most of our yard is shaded by mature trees. I reseeded part of the backyard with dense shade mix to see how it would do. I sprayed the yard, waited a week, raked out the dead weeds, and then put down seed and starter fertilizer. I put the seed down later in the fall than I would’ve liked but it came in. I put some winterguard down before it got really cold and then waited until spring. I’ve been following the Scott’s feeding schedule and I’ve got lush green grass in that area now. My only criticism is that 7lbs is the largest size bag they sell of dense shade mix.

Pleasantly surprised with the results! I bought a small bag over a year ago for use under a densely shaded area where nothing but moss grew before. I sat the bag aside in my garage until I could get to the project. One long list of projects later, I thought I’d give the old bag a whirl. Easy!! I just raked the area a bit, back combed, and watered. Can’t say that I was even that regular with my watering, and it’s been a hot and humid spring thus far, but it came in great! I was so happy, I bought more seeds and some top soil to extend the area and really do the job right! Fingers crossed it survives the summer drought.

I live in St. Louis, Missouri with hot 90-100 degree summers, humid weather, and cold winters. My front lawn is shaded by huge sycamore trees, and gets essentially no direct sunlight. In addition there is a ornamental spruce tree in the front. This grass sprouted and is growing even under the spruce tree (ie, under the shade of TWO trees). I planted in early spring with a top coat of compost. Watered daily for about 5 minutes until 2 weeks after the grass sprouted. Had nice thick growth throughout the lawn, already on the third mowing. Love this grass so far! We will see how it makes it through a Midwest summer…

Expired grass seed. I blame myself for expecting to be able to manage a garden center. I bought grass seed to overseed my tree area that needs dense shade grass seed. So this is 2021, and the grass seed best use date was 2020. I doubt that I will have good success, as I had a small amount left and ran a germination test that I learned in my college horticulture classes. Results were dismal.
